Britney Spears coming back to MTV Awards

With skin, snakes and smooches in her past MTV repertoire, there's no telling what's in store Sunday when Britney Spears opens this year's Video Music Awards.
The 25-year-old tabloid magnet will perform "Gimme More," the first single from her upcoming album, MTV announced Thursday.
Spears is a VMAs veteran: She covered the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" in 2000, stripping down to a nude-colored bikini top and matching pants; a year later, she performed "I'm A Slave 4 U" with a 7-foot albino python around her neck. In 2003, she and Madonna had the watercooler moment of the year with an open-mouth kiss in the opening act.
Sunday's show in Las Vegas will mark Spears' latest and biggest step toward a career comeback after a period of public misbehavior, short-lived marriages, ultra-short hair-don'ts and other misadventures.
Her long-awaited new album is due for release Nov. 13 on Jive Records.

Lewis Drops an Anti-Gay Slur on Telethon

Jerry Lewis dropped an anti-gay slur the same one that got Isaiah Washington of "Grey's Anatomy" in trouble during the 18th hour of his annual Labor Day telethon.
He apologized Tuesday for a "bad choice of words."
The 81-year-old showman prowling about the stage during the live telecast Monday in Las Vegas was goofing around and dodging his cameraman, then went into a ramble about imaginary family members. "Oh, your family has come to see you," he said, speaking to the camera and gesturing toward thin air. "You remember Bart, your older son," he said, and motioning toward another unseen character, "Jesse, the illiterate f-----.
"No," Lewis said, quickly stopping himself before continuing.
Monday's monologue prompted a critical statement Tuesday from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. Neil Giuliano, GLAAD president, called Lewis' use of the term "simply unacceptable." "It also feeds a climate of hatred and intolerance that contributes to putting our community in harm's way," Giuliano said.
In a statement Tuesday, Lewis said he was making "a joking comment to a member of my production team." "I apologize to anyone who was offended," he went on. "Everyone who knows me understands that I hold no prejudices in this regard. In the family atmosphere of the telethon, I forget that not everyone knows me that well.
"That something like this would distract from the true purpose of the telethon pains me deeply.... I accept responsibility for what I said. There are no excuses," he said.
Lewis' telethon, in its 42nd year, set a new record by raising $63.7 million to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, topping last year's event by $3 million.

Jude Law Arrested For Alleged Attack

Police arrested Jude Law for allegedly attacking a photographer outside his London home, British media reported Wednesday.
The 34-year-old actor allegedly tried to grab the photographer's camera during the incident on Tuesday, Britain's Press Association said. He was released on bail and must return to a London police station in October.
Law's publicist was not immediately available for comment.
Police would not directly confirm the report, but said a 34-year-old man from Law's neighborhood was arrested on suspicion of causing bodily harm. Police added the man voluntarily went to a police station for questioning.
Law recently returned from the Venice Film Festival where he was promoting the remake of the movie "Sleuth," in which he co-stars with Michael Caine.

Mom Of Marine Hurt In Crash Defends Hogan Family

The mother of a Dunedin man critically injured in a car accident Aug. 26 is standing behind the famous family of professional wrestling icon Hulk Hogan, whose son was driving the car.
John Graziano, a 22-year-old Marine just back from Iraq, was a passenger in a car driven by Hogan's 17-year-old son, Nick Bollea, that lost control in Clearwater and struck a tree. Graziano remains hospitalized at Bayfront Medical Center. Bollea was treated and released for serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Hogan's real name is Terry Bollea, but his family also uses the last name Hogan in the reality show, "Hogan Knows Best," which airs on VH1.
Bay News 9 reported Monday receiving an exclusive e-mail from Debbie Graziano that supports the Hogans and thanks the community for praying for and supporting her son.
Debbie Graziano said she was compelled to write after "hearing small bites of what is being said in the media" regarding the accident. She said the Hogans - Terry, his wife, Linda, and Nick - have visited the hospital every day, personally delivering food and offering support.
"My son John has been very close to the Bollea family for over six years," she wrote, according to the television station. "Since day one of this nightmare, they have been with us physically, emotionally, mentally and financially."
The e-mail says Nick Bollea, despite his own injuries, has sat for hours each day with the family. It says Hogan's family did not hide after the accident for fear of backlash by Graziano's family.
The two young men became friends over a shared loved of cars, Debbie Graziano wrote. "My son was like an older brother to Nick."
Clearwater police continue to investigate the accident, but they have said it involved excessive speed.
John Graziano bought his mother a car before leaving for Iraq, she wrote, "so he would know I was driving safely while he was gone and he paid for it with his combat pay."
She said her son, who she described as "naturally cool" with "little tolerance for fuss" would be angry to know that his family is "being torn apart in the media by assumptions and downright lies."Debbie Graziano did not elaborate, but concluded her e-mail by re-emphasizing her appreciation for the Hogans. She said they are holding Nick accountable as good parents should, and she said he is suffering for what has happened to his friend.
"Terry and Linda are doing everything to remove any burden from me, so my only focus is John," she wrote, "out of their love for John, period."

Timberlake Won't Hide His "Dick"

Justin Timberlake doesn’t want to cover up his “Dick” at the Emmys. As I first reported, Timberlake and Andy Samberg are said to be in talks to perform their Saturday Night Live skit “Dick in a Box” at the Primetime Emmys Sept. 16. A source reports that things may have hit a snag because the show's producers have apparently asked Timberlake and Samberg to change the words of the racy ditty to make it more family friendly. The ceremony airs on Fox at 8 p.m.
I’m told the singer and the actor have balked at the request.
When the holiday-themed skit debuted on SNL in December, the word “dick” was bleeped out 16 times. The skit features Timberlake and Samberg bearing gifts attached to their man parts while crooning to their ladies. The funny thing is that if the Emmys performance were to occur, it's possible Timberlake and Samberg could have already been named winners by that time, since “Dick in a Box” is nominated for Original Music and Lyrics. It goes up against Family Guy’s “My Drunken Irish Dad,” MADtv’s “Merry Ex-Mas” and double-nominee Scrubs for “Guy Love” and “Everything Comes Down to Poo.”
The Original Music and Lyrics award will be bestowed Sept. 8 at the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony, a week before the Primetime Emmys.
Reps for Timberlake, Samberg, Saturday Night Live, Fox and the Emmys did not comment.

Britney vs. Timbaland:

Britney Spears wants her MTV Video Music Awards. But does the music impresario orchestrating the night’s performances want Britney Spears?
A well-placed source tells me that execs at the music network are still negotiating with Spears to open the extravaganza, but the show’s musical director, über-producer Timbaland, would rather she stay home.
“He doesn’t want her on the show,” my source says. “Too much drama, and he thinks she is going to take away from the other good performers.”
Reps for MTV, Timbaland and Spears did not comment.
Not only is Timbaland himself performing at the Sept. 9 show in Las Vegas, but the lineup also includes Rihanna, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, Chris Brown, Foo Fighters, Lil' Wayne, T-Pain, Cee-Lo and Daniel Merriweather.
While Timbaland’s good pal
Justin Timberlake hasn’t been officially announced, I hear he’ll also perform. Timberlake and Beyoncé lead the nominations with seven apiece. (He's also in talks to perform "Dick in a Box" with Andy Samberg at the Emmys.)
What about those rumors that Timberlake and
Madonna will team up for the VMAs? My source says that, as of today, there are no such plans.

Ex-'Idol' Finalist In Rehab

Tampa resident and former 'American Idol' top-10 finalist Jessica Sierra is in rehab - and doing it California-style.At a court hearing Wednesday morning, Sierra's attorney said she was seeking help at a California establishment but declined to say where. About 5 p.m., VH-1 spokesman Scott Acord said the singer will be one of the stars of a new reality TV show called 'Celebrity Rehab.'
Although VH-1 has not disclosed all of the stars, Internet bloggers have mentioned names such as former female pro-wrestler Chyna, embattled movie star Tom Sizemore and TV nerd Andy Dick.

No broadcast date was given.
Sierra's prosecution on charges of felony battery and possession of cocaine has been postponed for a month or two while she completes treatment.
'I don't want to get into the precise issues, but it is very helpful to her,' her attorney John Fitzgibbons said after the hearing Wednesday. 'From all accounts, she is doing very well.'
Fitzgibbons declined to say what type of treatment Sierra is receiving but did say that the program handles rehabilitation for dependency on drugs and alcohol.
Circuit Judge Greg Holder told The Tampa Tribune that he could not discuss an ongoing case and would not comment on the show or Sierra's treatment.
Bar Patron Files Lawsuit
The 21-year-old singer has pleaded not guilty to a felony battery charge stemming from an arrest April 29 at Hyde Park Cafe. Bar patron Wisam Hadad said Sierra threw a glass at him. Police reports stay he had a 3/4 -inch gash over his right eyebrow. Hadad told reporters he assumed Sierra thought he was someone else.
Sierra told police that Hadad spat on her but later clarified that she could not be sure it was Hadad. Hadad filed a lawsuit against the nightclub and Sierra. The lawsuit is pending.
When police booked Sierra into jail, her legal problems worsened. Police said she had 0.8 grams of cocaine in her purse and added charges of cocaine possession and introduction of contraband into a detention facility.
She is out of jail on $11,500 bail pending trial.
Fitzgibbons said he hopes prosecutors and the judge take Sierra's treatment into account as her case progresses.

Struggles In Public Eye
Sierra rose to fame two years ago as a finalist on Fox's hit reality show, where talent scouts rate wanna-be singing stars.
After Sierra's initial success, her career slowed and she hit several roadblocks. Last year, she dealt with a 59-year-old stalker who flew to Tampa from California because he thought she would marry him.
After the battery and cocaine charges were filed, she and a rental-car company had a rather public disagreement. Apple Rental Cars on Nebraska Avenue filed a complaint that said Sierra owed money on a rented 2004 Kia Optima after she kept it past the contract date. When the car was returned, managers of the rental shop said, it was filthy and the floor mats were missing.
Fitzgibbons said Wednesday that Sierra has paid the company $738.40 and the matter has been dropped.

Britney Going Doggy Style Again

Britney Spears Out Of The Doghouse Over Pup's Broken Leg
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals confirms to Access Hollywood they have dropped their investigation into Brit and her reportedly injured pup.
The SPCA has announced it was looking into reports Britney's dog had suffered a broken leg.
Spears' camp put the pooch patrol in touch with the singer's vet, who confirmed the dog had been properly treated for a mild fracture to one of its legs. Apparently, someone accidentally stepped on the dog when it made its way into one of Brit's closets.
Last week, the SPCA said they received complaints from people who had witnessed the condition of the dog. However, the reports seem to differ, with some saying the dog had broken its leg and wasn't being treated while others said the pup's leg was in a cast.

On Friday of last week, the SPCA sent a representative to Brit's house, but only a housekeeper was home, and since they did not have a warrant, they could not actually go inside and see the dog.
The rep asked that Britney contact the SPCA.
Meanwhile, Access Hollywood learned attorneys for Britney and Kevin Federline squared off in a Los Angeles courtroom on Monday morning.
A source tells Access that lawyer Dennis Wasser (the father of Brit's attorney Laura Wasser, who was unable to be there) requested a continuance in the heated custody battle with K-Fed.
The next hearing had been scheduled for September 17. No word yet if the continuance has been granted.
Over the weekend, Britney was pulled over for speeding by Highway Patrol in Los Angeles. However, after a brief conversation, she was let off with just a warning after reporetedly telling officers she was speeding because she was being chased by the paparazzi.

Owen Wilson Call Listed On Police Log

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Police were called to Owen Wilson's home because of an attempted suicide report, according to a police log of weekend calls. The log doesn't indicate who made the call Sunday, but lists "attempt suicide" as the reason for it.
Wilson was in good condition Monday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Hospital officials said Tuesday they weren't releasing any updated information. The actor's publicist, Ina Treciokas, declined to answer questions Tuesday about whether Wilson attempted to commit suicide. She said Wilson's statement asking for privacy was all that was being released.
Wilson, 38, was initially taken by ambulance from his home to Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica and later transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The police log shows the initial call came in at 12:08 p.m. and cleared at 5:17 p.m. and a report was filed. Police said Monday that privacy laws prohibited them from releasing that document. The police log was obtained Tuesday by http://celebritylog.blogspot.com/Wilson has two movies in production and two more upcoming releases to help promote.DreamWorks Pictures said in a statement that filming continues on "Tropic Thunder," a comedy starring Wilson. The studio offered no details on whether Wilson's role in the movie, directed by Ben Stiller and starring Jack Black, would be recast.
It was also unknown if Wilson's hospitalization would affect his appearance opposite Jennifer Aniston in the 20th Century Fox comedy "Marley & Me."A Fox spokesman told Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety that "it's a totally inappropriate question at this time" whether he would appear in the movie.Wilson's hospitalization could also keep him from helping promote "The Darjeeling Limited," in which he stars alongside Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman. The Fox Searchlight film was to be released next month.
Paramount also had a Wilson film due out in March: the Judd Apatow-produced "Drillbit Taylor."Treciokas released a brief statement Monday on Wilson's behalf: "I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."
